Gets everything right

These writers really know Texas - I live in Houston, but I travel all over the state (I use these books to get day trip ideas) and they really nail pretty much every aspect of the Lone Star State: the best places for barbecue, the essential sights, the culture... like most Lonely Planet guides, the coverage of off-the-beaten-path destinations and outdoor activities is top-notch, which I love (although Frommer's has a more nuanced rating system and Fodor's has the prettiest layouts... but that's a discussion for another day).

In short, this is overall the best Texas guide I've read. My only hang-up is the writing in certain chapters (the Gulf Coast, in particular) is pretty dry, although the rest of the chapters are quite engaging. The quality of information throughout, however, is impeccable.

(P.S. - To the reviewer mentioning the "gross" food recommendations in Lockhart - I strongly disagree with you, as does apparently Texas Monthly and the long lines of people waiting out the door.)

I wished there were more substantial separate guides for each of the major Texas cities

Honestly, each of the sections in this book should probably have it's own book, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Austin, etc. I just spent 9 days in Houston and got this book, in addition to several other relevant tour guides. In the end, I stopped using the other guides and consulted just with LP. In general, LP writers have a better feel for what is important, what is fun, and what is interesting. Houston is the fourth most populated city in the USA and growing. There's lots to do and while the 40 or so pages devoted to Houston were good, the best among the sources I had, I wished there was more. A problem in writing a Hoston tour guide is that it is growing and changing so quickly. Galveston is also interesting and the section on Galveston (just an hour away from Houston), should have been much, much bigger, too.
addendum (3/12/16): Just came back from 9 days in San Antonio and the Hill Country. I found these sections of this book just as good, and after buying and trying to use the other guides, I found this one the best

Zen-like concepts and little depth in a coffee-table book format

I was hoping for a practical how-to guide for B2B branding. That's what my small business does: B2B services. There was little practical advice in this book that applies to small business.

What I did find was a series of zen-like concepts and how they applied to Deloitte - a very large international corporation. These little nuggets of wisdom were good and I think helpful for my own marketing strategy creation. Is it conceptual? Yes. Is it a practical guide? No.

I think the title mentioning 195,000 Brand Managers leads the purchaser to think there may be input or examples from outside Deloitte. It quickly can be seen when reading the 195,000 are just all the Deloitte employees. Still this bugged me a bit.

The layout of the book is logical and presents the (as the authors appear to feel) gold standard of the Deloitte B2B marketing and branding efforts. It is good, but feels self aggrandizing. At least a bit is due to the lack of any pitfalls in how the brand was implemented. Surely there were things they tried that didn't work. Knowing those and why they didn't work would have been helpful and I think built more credibly.

The book itself is hard cover in coffee-table large format. The high quality paper and color printing with emphasis on pictures and large simple diagrams all say this book is more for display than reading. Perhaps this is the coffee-table book for the marketing professional?

I got some good concepts and ideas about marketing and branding from Designing B2B Brands. I don't think it was aimed at me, but at the mega corporation marketing professional.

For the marketing professional it may be a 5 star book, but for me it's only worth 1 star. I would not spend my money on this.

This book has a lot of useful information and examples. The focus is only Deloitte, but it's a good illustration of how a brand is expressed and managed in every aspect of a single business. For companies with some DIY spirit, this would be a good reference. I don't know how the visuals would translate to the kindle edition. In the print version, the images help convey the balance of consistency and creativity in how they communicate, which is one of the best parts of this book. Without those images it may not have as much impact.

Designing B2B Brands was just what I was looking for - a summary of everything on the topics of branding. Strategy, positioning, visual identity...and then tons of examples of those concepts brought to life. With my marketing background, I found it incredibly useful. I didn't know much about Deloitte or their brand before reading this, but it was a real eye-opener. Impressive brand and impressive book!

About the Author
Nancy Tye-Murray is a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and an Adjunct Professor at New Zealand's University of Canterbury. A founder of the University of Iowa Cochlear Implant Aural Rehabilitation Programs, she also served as Director of Research for Central Institute for the Deaf. In addition to developing several communication strategies training programs, auditory training programs, and speechreading tests, Dr. Tye-Murray is the principle investigator of three National Institutes of Health RO1 grants. Her research focuses on the effects of aging on audiovisual speech recognition, discourse comprehension, and auditory training, as well as audiovisual speech processing by children who have normal and impaired hearing. The author of six books and more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers, Dr. Tye-Murray is also a popular speaker both nationally and internationally.

Right text, Listed incorrectly

Amazon lists this text book incorrectly. It is listed as the 2008 version, which doesn't exist. However, when you preview the copywrite page, it is the correct, 2009 3rd edition. Amazon just has some updating to do.

Don't get this in the Kindle edition. Some of the resources are blanked out for "copyright restrictions." Also, you cannot view it on Kindle Cloud Reader or many Kindle devices. It requires the Kindle app, which also may not be compatible with your computer. Find that out before you rent.

Good buy even though the subject wasn't my greatest area in school. Overall the shipper did a great job with packaging and the book has good info.
