Great Story

Probably one of the best books I've read. Lost a lot of sleep turning pages. In a lot of books, the ending simply drops on you in a paragraph. Not so with this book. It is very well done, from beginning to end. If you enjoy legal thrillers, this ones for you. The characters are very human. They remind me of people I've met or know and the development of the way they interact with life is spot on. Highly recommend.

The writer very cleverly writes this story that leaves a surprising ending. It doesn't make the legal system look too swift but then who actually thinks we have a legal system. It is as corrupt as a member of congress. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and look forward to reading more of his books.

A good read that keeps you picking it back up

I wanted to keep reading to see where it was headed. Although I felt I knew what the verdict would be, it did have a surprise twist...and several along the way. Liked the main character. Although I'm female, this is probably more of a guy's book.

About the Author
Marianne Schneider Corey is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California and a National Certified Counselor. She received her master's degree in marriage, family, and child counseling from Chapman College. She is a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work and was the recipient of this organization's Eminent Career Award in 2001. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and is a member of that organization. She also holds memberships in the American Counseling Association, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, the Association for Specialists in Group Work, the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Western Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. In the past 40 years, Marianne Schneider Corey and Jerry Corey have presented workshops in group counseling for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland. Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services and Counseling at California State University at Fullerton. He received his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; and a National Certified Counselor. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17, Counseling Psychology; and Division 49, Group Psychotherapy); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Both Jerry and Marianne Corey received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and both also received the Eminent Career Award from ASGW in 2001. Dr. Jerry Corey was given the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from California State University at Fullerton in 1991. He regularly teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling and ethics in counseling. He is the author or coauthor of 15 textbooks in counseling currently in print, along with more than 60 journal articles and book chapters.

Cindy Corey is a California licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in San Diego, California. She worked for over a decade as a full-time Visiting Professor in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology at San Diego State University, in both the Community Based Block and Marriage and Family Therapy programs. She received her master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego and her Doctorate (PsyD) in Multicultural Community Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology in Alhambra, California. Dr. Corey has focused much of her work in the area of counselor education, specializing in multicultural training, social justice, and community outreach. In addition to teaching at San Diego State University, she taught part time in the PsyD program at Alliant International University in Alhambra. She has also worked as a contracted clinician for Survivors of Torture International, focusing primarily on helping Sudanese refugee youths to adjust to life in the United States, gain employment, and attend colleges and universities. Dr. Corey works as a multicultural consultant and has created clinical intervention programs, training manuals, and diversity sensitive curriculum for a variety of schools, businesses, and organizations in the San Diego area. Her private practice focuses mainly on working with women, couples, counselors, and graduate students in counseling programs.

Watch out the seller(CVogas) that sells photo-copied books.

I ordered this used book paying $120 1/15 and it was delivered 1/27. However, that book was not like right book. I have ordered 9th edition hard covered used book but it was a black and white photo-copied fake book and even printing was unevenly done. So I requested to return/refund my money but this seller kept denying my request. Finally, the seller told me I would have to send it back to "Malaysia." What? So, I requested claiming this order to Amazon customer service and they gave me El Paso address and I sent it back. But, now the seller said they didn't get the book(but I confirmed it was delivered.) so amazon told me my return claim was denied. This seller seems to play a game. They made me remove the evidence sending back the book then just said they didn't get it. It is unethical and unfair. Amazon.com is also never helpful. The seller told me they never gave the address to Amazon.com and they gave me Malaysia address. But, the seller never gave any address directly.
I am an active customer since many years ago but it has never happened. I will not give up my money back. I have photos to prove the book was a photo-copied book and USPS tracking showed it was delivered 2/7. I believe copywriting or photo-copying a publish book is illegal. As an active Amazon customer, I cannot stand it any more.

I wish they were all like this

The ease of a loose leaf book is amazing. You can take out the area of the book you need at that moment and study it, then put it back. If the paper were a bit thicker is would be my absolute favorite way to study. The paper is able to handle highlighting, it is the taking out and putting back several times that can be hard on the paper.

A concise and easy to read epilepsy textbook

The book was a product of many experienced and internationally-recognised pediatric epileptologists (physician specialised in epilepsy treatment), fully editted by Dr Michael Duchowny, one of the world-renowned and pioneers of epilepsy surgery in children. The book covers almost all aspects of epilepsy in children from definition, types, epileptic syndromes by age, investigation and variety of treatment. The stand out quality of this book is that every chapter is very concise that you can finish it within half an hour per chapter (and this is from my own experience and I consider myself quite a slow reader when it comes to English language). Moreover, the authors also give you some "tips" from their own experience regarding the topic as well as the information from studies and research. It also contains lots of very useful diagrams for a quick review.
In summary, as an American-trained pediatric neurologist and epileptologist myself, I strongly recommend this book for everybody who is interested and/or involves in the care of children with epilepsy.

University of Michigan political science professor Lieberthal here presents a devastating critique of Mao's rule and its disastrous legacy. In the Maoist movement's peasant-based, military path to power, he perceives the roots of many characteristics of post-1949 China--for example, the close interlocking of party and army, repeated attacks on intellectuals, and mass political campaigns. Lieberthal credits Deng Xiaoping of the late 1970s and early '80s as an innovative reformer, an improvisational genius who effected a conscious reduction in the government's control of social and economic activity. This engrossing text also provides an amazingly detailed blueprint of modern China's power elite, their propaganda and coercive systems. Lieberthal, an adviser to the State Department and the World Bank, details the clash of China's new generation of technocrats and its stagnant gerontocracy as he discusses such issues as political succession, managing the economy and limiting environmental damage. China, which now has the world's largest armed forces, will remain authoritarian in the foreseeable future, he believes, even as it makes enormous economic advances.

Great First Step to Chinese Politics

This is an excellent book if someone is looking for an introduction to chinese politics, history and its political economy. It is comprehensive and easy to grasp, and one of the few books of its kind that I actually found difficult to put down. It is not, however, the best book to look to for an in-depth discussion of specific topics. You should look elsewhere - you could start with Lieberthal's bibliography - if your intrests lie within a narrow subject.

Makes things clear

This is a very good book on how China actually works. For those of us who did not know a thing about this country it really sums it up nicley. This book tells how Mao and Deng pushed China to make it better. It goes in depth on how those two pushed the cadres into early retirment to bring in younger workers who new about the mordern technology and who were also more highly educated. I also really enjoyed how the author made clear how China is and can affect the future of the U.S and the entire world.

Well written account

Lieberthal strikes a good balance between detailed history and scholarly analysis. He doesn't just overload you with the details and leave it up to you to think about what it all means. Great book for the budding China scholar.
