Loved the recipes. The juices were very easy and don't use any artificial sweeteners. I enjoy throwing in all the ingredients and watching them blend, but more so, reading about the benefits. You can actually feel which juices do what. Some provide energy kick and others actually clear the mind. My favorites for effect are relaxing cleanses but taste-wise Deep Sable Slushie & Papaya Slash are the the best!

These juice recipes are amazing! I'm always looking for new juice recipes to try and this book hit the spot. My favorite is the immune serum. I LOVE asparagus! Although the Cherry Berry is a near 2nd. You will feel (and look) a lot better if you continue to use the recipes in this book. It's a great natural and fun way to improve your overall health.

Excellent book...buy this one first

I'm always a bit suspicious of the "Dummies" and "Idiots" books, as many of them really short on information. But this book is really full of information about how to get started in ham radio. It is well organized and well written. One note: this has very little detail about how to pick out your first radio; plenty of general information, but it is not a product selection guide. But if you read it, you will realize, as the author recommends, that the best way to buy a radio is to make some friends in the ham radio community and get some help picking out equipment. But I can't recommend this book enough....really helpful.

It's like a mentor in book form!

The author is a well-known radio amateur who writes a regular column in QST, the largest ham radio magazine. In this book he gives a broad overview of the hobby, introducing the newcomer to its many facets. It takes the reader through the process of earning a ham license, then shows the new ham what he can do with that license. I plan to buy a copy for each graduate of our radio club's licensing course. The new edition of the book (August, 2013) updates all the information in the original. Outstanding book for anyone with an interest in amateur radio.

A broad overview of everything HAM can do, not enough detail to learn much

My goals with this book were twofold, picking up knowledge helping me get licensed, and picking up skills to actually operate the gear.

The book has a general overview of everything HAM can do. It's not pretty deep on actual details. For someone new to the subject, it actually was kind of surreal. Photos of 1970 automotive dashboard, CRT monitors, moving TO 9600 bps rates.

There's also a lot of general life advice like searching the internet or to be early for meetings. I wasn't sure if the author understood the "for dummies" was a tongue-in-cheeks concept. At any rate, this is advice not specific to HAM radio.

There's a lot of detail on how to get licensed. Disappointingly, it's all about the process of getting licensed, not the skills or knowledge to get licensed.

There's extensive information about building your own antenna, how to organize a computer desk and multiple stationary radios, and designing your own room dedicated to HAM radio. Once again, in a for dummies book, is that going to be of interest to someone new to the subject?

In summary, somewhat entertaining overview of everything you can do with a HAM radio that you'll want to read front to back. I wished I had gotten a book focusing more on the beginner and teaching hands-on skills.

This is an excellent book and Paddington is a lovable bear. This particular translation into Spanish is slightly questionable at times - where on occasion it feels as though the interpretation was very literal - but it's not so jarring as to take away from the overall charm of the book. It gets the message across to Spanish-speaking readers well enough, with a few pauses along the way to figure out what a certain expression or word means in Spain that is not used in Latin America. I will continue to search for other translations, but overall, this is a nice interpretation that tells the story. I would recommend it to be read to children of 6 years and up.

Lovely...inside and out.

We love this book and Paddington's occurrences that we just had to have it in our collection. Both my boys (4 & 10) ask me to read it to them all the time. The translation uses a Spanish used in Spain... Being from Latin America, we quickly noted the difference but, it is Spanish nevertheless. We love it and wished there were more of Paddington's books in Spanish.

Over the last century we have gone from ignorance as to why some diseases run in families to the availability of simple genetic tests that can be bought on the internet. And from announcements of the death of Darwinism to the triumph of the modern theory of evolution. All this is thanks to the fruit fly, the guinea pig, the zebra fish and a handful of other organisms, which have helped us unravel one of life’s greatest mysteries – inheritance.

Endersby traces his story from Darwin hand-pollinating passion flowers in his back-garden in an effort to find out whether his decision to marry his cousin had harmed their children, to today’s high-tech laboratories, full of shoals of shimmering zebra fish, whose bodies are transparent until they are mature, allowing scientists to watch every step as a single fertilised cell multiplies to become the millions of specialised cells that make up a new fish. Each story has – piece by piece – revealed how DNA determines the characteristics of the adult organism. Not every organism was as cooperative as the fruit fly or zebra fish, some provided scientists with misleading answers or encouraged them to ask the wrong questions.

About the Author
Nic Cheeseman is Associate Professor of African Politics of the African Studies Centre at the University of Oxford. He is the coeditor of the collections Our Turn to Eat (2010) and The Handbook of African Politics (2013). He is also the editor of the journal African Affairs, a member of the advisory board of the UNICEF Chair on Communication Research (Africa) and an advisor to, and writer for, Kofi Annan's African Progress Panel.
